As we learn more about both LED strip lighting and the technology around it, systems have developed and we are proud to announce our new range of controls to work with ZigBee home automation.
If smart home automation is something you have been looking into, you are probably aware of the huge explosion in popularity over the past few years. In recent years we have moved into a new and exciting world of home automation with big brand devices such as Amazon Echo, Philips Hue and Google Home featuring built-in hubs to control all of your services such as lighting, energy management, heating controls and so much more all via simple voice command or at the touch of a button.

Introducing ZigBee

ZigBee has actually been around for more than 10 years, and not something that is new to the market. However, smart home automation especially to include LED lighting has only recently taken off over the past few years.
Smart home automation is something we at Arc LED have been focusing on for some time, and with ZigBee – we think we have found the real winner. A lot of companies develop programs and controls to control your home, however, in order to have them working as one unit, you have to use a single common language. With ZigBee controls, as long as they are both compatible with ZigBee, whether they are products from different manufacturers or not – they speak 'common language' and therefore there is no barrier. This is a great feature when compared to the hundreds of other smart home hubs on the market.

ZigBee x Amazon Echo Plus

It's very important when taking the leap to control your home wirelessly that you are familiar with your choices and the products that you will need to allow smart home control. If you are thinking of using an Amazon device you must ensure you use the Echo Plus with the built-in smart home hub. If you go for the cheaper option such as the Echo Dot, you will not be able to control your lighting. The reason behind this is the built-in smart home controls. ZigBee receivers need to be able to 'talk' to the home hub in order to allow control, and without this – you simply won't be able to use Alexa voice commands to turn your lights on/off, dim them down and even change the colours of your lighting.

Alexa, turn kitchen light on...

It's as simple as that. Once you have synced your Amazon Alexa with your ZigBee receivers, simply use voice command to control your lighting. Linking your devices could not be more simple! Once wired in and you have your strip lighting connected to the receivers, use voice command 'Alexa, discover my devices' and watch the magic happen. You can then name individual lights within a room to allow singular control of each feature light.
