Why switching to LED should be next on your 2018 'things to do list'

There are many benefits when it comes to switching to LED lighting, and we are here to name just a few and explain the environmental impact of LED lights. As the technology has become more and more advanced, LED is finally coming of age – yet people are still nervous about making the switch. Truth is, it's relatively stress free, affordable and something you should definitely be considering. If you aren't confident with LED lighting – don't worry! I'll explain the basics to get you started!

With the ever changing LED lighting market, there are many more options when it comes choosing the perfect lighting. Here are just a few of them below.

Light Colour: As technology advances, we have many more great options with lighting. Firstly, it's important to choose the right colour output. The most common colour temperature (Kelvin)  for a living room would be 3000K. This gives a warm white glow similar to an old style halogen lamp, creating a soft, warm environment to relax in. We would normally then recommend a 4000K for a kitchen. This colour temperature is perfect for when you need clear, crisp light for preparing food. Finally a 6500K daylight LED lamp can be used in the bathroom. Of course, the light colour is completely down to personal preference!

Wattage: As with halogen lamps, you also need to choose the correct wattage for your new LED strips. They come in a wide range depending on if you'd like them to be dimmable or non-dimmable. Most common wattages are from 4.8-9.6W per metre. Nowadays dimmable LED  strips are almost as affordable as non-dimmable, so it's good to keep your options open.

Modern & Stylish Homes Using Bespoke LED Tape

Here at ArcLED we offer a huge range of LED tape which is the perfect way to create timeless, affordable and energy efficient lighting. Things become a little more complex, however, don't be put off. It's really simple once you get your head around things! All of the strip listed on our website is described per metre. So like with a lamp where it explains 5W 3000K, our strip is the same, just the wattage shown is per metre.

Strip lights are becoming the most sought after lighting in modern homes. We have worked on hundreds of bespoke LED lighting projects ranging from kitchens and bathrooms to the fabulous Kingslake Holidays Club House in Holsworthy. Not only do luxury LED strip lights look fantastic, they are also far more energy efficient than the average incandescent or halogen lamp. The annual energy consumption for an LED is around 30 times lower than a standard incandescent. LEDs generate far less heat. They manage to convert a huge 95% of energy to light and lose just 5% to heat, compared to 90% of energy being lost to heat with a standard comparable incandescent.

There are many other factors that are contributing to the rapid rise in use of flexible LED strip lights around the world. Flexible designs, colour options, brightness and ease of installation are to name a few. Our main focus here at ArcLED is to provide friendly and professional bespoke LED tape service. We are happy to assist with any job from the basics to far more challenging. With over 60 years collective experience within the industry, we are confident we will be able to help.

Make the Switch to LED Today!

So, now you know a little bit about switching to LED lighting – what's holding you back? It's certainly not the huge money savings or energy benefits. Many go by the rule 'don't fix something unless it's broken', however with LED lighting this really isn't the motto to live by! Although, initially it can be more expensive to replace your out-dated lamps, the average light lasts for up to 10 years and repays itself within 5! It's also great for the environment. Less lamps means less packaging, less transportation and less production. You can't argue with that.
