Using LED Strip Lights in Boats and Yachts

2105 Views 0 Liked
Here at Arc LED we are always being asked about using LED strip lights on boats and yachts. They are the perfect choice to bring a bit of the 'wow factor' to your boat and can even help with making your boat more functional. LED strip lights are fast becoming the most sought-after lighting on the market and it's easy to see why. They offer huge flexibility, low running costs and also low replacement costs. There are a number of things to consider when choosing lighting for your boats such as IP rating, colour and size, so we've written this post to give you a lending hand.

Keep your Deck Lit with LED Strip Lights

If you're looking to provide your decks with a little colour, this will come into contact with water and probably sand. Although it won't be submerged (we hope not) underwater permanently, you'll still need an IP65 or higher rated LED strip light. RGB LED tape will make your boat deck the place to be, we have a range of colour changing tapes available here, so check them out! Not only will it provide a splash of colour, but it can also be remotely controlled to achieve awesome lighting effects that will make your boat or yacht the most talked about vessel to cruise along those luxurious blue waters.

Not only does this look great, but also helps to avoid accidents. Boats can be slippery places, and when dark, you definitely don't want to be tripping down the stairs. Similar to deck lighting on boats, if the stairs are outside, you'll need to choose LED strip lights with an IP65 or higher rating. If they're indoors, then IP20 will suffice providing they won't come into contact with water. Adding coloured LED lights not only adds value to your precious yacht, but it'll also improve night sailing safety!

All Important Storage Lighting

LED strip light isn't just great for creating stunning lighting effects, but also very handy when it comes to boats with little storage spaces. Installing big chunky lights takes away from some of the small spaces you have to store your precious cargo, so why not use LED tape? Most strips are just 8-12mm wide and virtually invisible when mounted onto a wall or ceiling. Using this style of lighting indoors requires strips with only an IP20 rating as long as it will not come into contact with water of any kind. You can even use quality aluminium profile to corner, surface or recess mount the strips to give an even more professional finish to your brand new lighting.

Signage Lighting with LED Tape

Now you've kitted out your boat's decks and interiors, it's time to show everyone else who's boss. Signage lighting can highlight the name of your boat and get everyone talking. Using LED strip is the perfect way to light your yachts name as it's flexible, waterproof (be sure to use an IP67 rated tape) and obviously looks fantastic. Now excuse us for a second, we're off daydreaming about cruising around the Med on our imaginary yacht...
