What our customers think
Dimmer Switches
One of the easiest ways to have control of the ambience of your room is by installing dimmer switches. These easy-to-use switches help you to set the light level at a brightness that suits you. If you are reading a book or working, you can turn up your lights to see all the details but if you are having a cosy evening and turning your living room into a home cinema, you can lower the lights for a pleasant yellow glow. Of course, it isn’t just in the home that a dimmer switch can transform a room; your business can benefit from dimmer switches. Got a presentation at work? Dim the lights so your colleagues can focus on the video or presentation on the screen. Perhaps you have a restaurant and you like to create a cosy ambience later in the evening; dimmer switches can transform the vibe in an instant.
When it comes to choosing a dimmer switch there are a few things to consider. Arc LED are here to help advise you on the products you need to make sure everything is compatible for using a dimmer switch but we will leave the aesthetic up to you.
In our collection, you will find a range of dimmer switch sizes and colours so you can match your dream aesthetic. For a timeless minimalist style, choose a classic white plate to blend in with your walls and create a light and airy feel. For a more modern or industrial feel, chrome can help to bring out metallic features in your room.
It is not only the colour you can choose but you can also choose the number of dimmer switches or the size of the light plate. Once you have found the best dimmer switches for your project, your products will arrive in no time with our fast shipping option.
Can you put a dimmer switch on any light?
You cannot use any light with a dimmer switch as not all bulbs are suitable for this function. Make sure to choose a bulb that is specifically designed to be dimmed or you may experience problems, from flickering to as far as damage to your system. This is particularly applicable to LED bulbs, which should only be used with dimmer switches if it is stated in the specifications of the bulb. This is because LED lights need to have an extra electronic driver in them in order to be able to adjust the brightness. While they may be more expensive, it is much cheaper in the long run to choose a purpose-made dimmable bulb.
Do I need an electrician to install a dimmer switch?
Since you will be dealing with wiring, it is best to employ an electrician to install your dimmer switch. If you are changing from a normal switch to a dimmer switch, it is considered a beginner-level electrician task so it can be achieved by knowledgeable DIYers. However, if you are installing completely new lights and a new system, it is definitely recommended to use an electrician to complete the installation. This will ensure your entire lighting system is safe as well as your LED dimmer switches.
Do I need a special dimmer switch for LED lights?
When it comes to choosing dimmer switches for LED lights, you do need to make sure the product is compatible with LED lights. Usually, you will find specially designed LED dimmer switches but always check the specifications to ensure the lights are suitable. At Arc LED, naturally, our dimmer switches are made for use with LED lights. It often depends on the age of the dimmer switch you are using. If you are using an old dimmer switch, it is likely made only for halogen bulbs. In contrast, many types of new dimmer switches are LED-ready.
What type of dimmer is best for LED lights?
Most modern types of dimmer switch are compatible with LED lights. If you want the best dimmer switch for LED lights then find a design that is specifically made for LED lights as well as choosing LED lights that are able to dim. While it is important to choose a reliable dimmer switch, it is actually more important to ensure you have the correct type of LED bulb to go with it. This is because normal LED lights aren’t installed with the electronic driver that gives them the capability to have adjustable brightness levels.
