What our customers think
Coving & Cornices
Did you know coving and cornices can house LED light strips? This modern aesthetic can transform the look of your space while providing an excellent solution to your lighting. Available in a range of styles and colours, you can choose the perfect design for your aesthetic to complete your room.
This is a popular style for modern homes as it adds detail to the edge of the ceiling and walls, giving the style of a traditional and timeless decoration. Some modern homes are built without much detail to the space, so this adds a point of interest as well as a way to light your room.
The neat aesthetic of LED strips is combined with excellent illumination. LED strips are easy to maintain and clean. Housed in cornices and coving, they will not go out of style unlike traditional lightbulbs and lampshades. This sleek style can be paired with any design from modern minimalist to traditional.
If you have a business space such as a reception room, restaurant or hotel then coving and cornices elevate the feel of your space while ensuring it is inviting. The bright and refreshing illumination that LED lights provide is coupled with sleek housing that means nobody is left eating their dinner with an inconvenient light fixture above their head. The best feature of LED lights is their ability to provide even lighting throughout your space for a natural feel to your room. The low maintenance and long-lasting design of LEDs is an added bonus as it will lower your overall costs and ensure it is easy to keep your lights looking clean and new.
In general, LED bulbs are a great lighting solution as they are energy efficient, helping you to do good and keep costs down. With the right professional to take on your project, they are quick and easy to install. We always recommend hiring a professional to install your LEDs as this ensures they are safe. There are several elements needed for your LEDs, all of which you can find at ArcLED.
What is coving?
Coving is a simple design feature, often made of plaster or wood, that is placed around the edge of the room between the wall and ceiling or around a window. This feature is usually added for aesthetic reasons rather than a practical purpose. However, in modern homes, coving is sometimes used to hide wires or house LED lights.
What is a cornice?
A cornice is a more ornate version of coving. It describes a decorative edging that is usually placed between the wall and ceiling join or around a window. Traditionally, it is made from plaster or wood and has been an architectural feature of homes in England.
Unlike traditional coving and cornices, LED coving is usually made of aluminium. This is because the coving is also acting as a profile for your LED lights. The lights are installed inside the coving profile so they are protected from dust and debris. Aluminium is used because it is a heat sink that assists with the excess heat LEDs produce.
LED coving and cornices can generally be split into two types – curved coving and recessed coving.
Curved coving is a type of cornice that protrudes from the wall. The gentle curve seamlessly blends together the wall and the ceiling, creating a softer angle and a point of interest. Add LEDs into the mix and you have a stunning feature for your space.
Recessed coving is placed above the ceiling to give a modern and unusual aesthetic that hides the seam of the ceiling and wall with light. Recessed coving needs to be installed with your plasterboard so you need to decide early on in the design process if you want to use this type of cornice. This sleek aesthetic lets the lights take centre stage in your design.
While it is traditional to place coving around the edge of your room, you can use coving anywhere you want to draw attention. In particular, recessed coving can be used between all your plasterboards to create bold and seamless light strips throughout your room.
To get the best fit for your space, you can use our made to measure service. This bespoke measuring allows you to bring your project to life without having to compromise. The lengths of LED strips can be cut in increments to get the right length for your wall or ceiling.
